Track & Field picked eighth in Horizon League Outdoor Preseason Poll

INDIANAPOLIS — The Wright State track and field program was picked eighth in the 2022 Horizon League Outdoor preseason poll, the conference office announced Monday. The Raiders tallied 45 points in the poll, which the league's 11 head coaches voted on.Â
Fresh off an HL Indoor title, Youngstown State (107) was selected to win the conference with a league-high eight first-place votes. Milwaukee (98) and Oakland (92) tabbed the second and third spots in the poll, while Purdue Fort Wayne (80) and Northern Kentucky (67) rounded out the top-five teams.Â
Robert Morris and UIC were slightly ahead of WSU with point totals of 60 and 55, respectively. Behind Wright State in eighth were IUPUI (38), Detroit Mercy (32), and Cleveland State (19).Â
The Raiders are coming off an eighth-place finish at the Horizon League Indoor Championship. WSU defended its conference title in the distance medley relay, as the quartet of Kaitlyn Miller, Alicia Neumeier, Alycea Ruhlen, and Emma Shigley placed first with a school-record time of 12:17.85. Abigail Halsey, Shelby Nolan, Shigley, and Miller also reached the podium in one or more individual events at the championship meet.Â
Wright State took 10th overall at last year's Horizon League Outdoor Championship. Nolan set a conference and school record in the 10,000-meter run (34:42.60), while Halsey was crowned champion in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 10:50.98.Â
The Raiders will continue their outdoor season on Saturday, March 26, at the Yellowjacket Invitational in Cedarville, Ohio.Â
