LAST TIME OUT
Wright State used a 20-0 run midway through the second half to storm back for a 75-63 win over Oakland in the quarterfinals of the 2022 Keeps Horizon League Championship on Thursday night. Tanner Holden led the way with a game-high 27 points, including 17 in the second half that all came over that final 12-plus minute stretch, while he added 10 rebounds and was 13-of-17 from the free throw stripe. Grant Basile tallied 12 of his 18 points in the second half and pulled down 11 rebounds of his own, with Trey Calvin notching 16 points along with five assists and three rebounds of his own. Andrew Welage was the final Raider in double-digits, connecting on a trio of three-pointers on the way to 11 points off the bench.

THE VIKING AGE
No. 1 seeded Cleveland State is 20-9 overall and is coming off of an 83-67 home win over No. 10 Robert Morris last Thursday. The quarterfinal win snapped what had been a two-game losing streak for Cleveland State, who closed the regular season by dropping three of its final five contests. Wright State dropped both regular season contests, the first back on Dec. 4 at Cleveland State in the Raiders' eighth game of the year and then Jan. 28 inside the Nutter Center.

FAMILIAR FOES
Wright State has won 11 of the last 16 contests in the series overall, which is the longest series all-time in Raider history. The Raiders and Vikings have met 79 times previously, with Wright State coming away with 42 wins. The first-ever meeting came Feb. 12, 1972, a Cleveland State 72-62 win in Cleveland. The first matchup in Dayton came Jan. 21, 1974,  a 69-45 Raider win (third meeting overall).

BELIEVE-LAND
Cleveland State is 20-9 overall but closed the regular season with three losses in its last five contests, all coming on the road. The Vikings have a losing record on the road this season at 5-6. Cleveland State also had scheduled road contests against Duke and Kent State, along with HL foes IUPUI and UIC, canceled in late December after COVID issues within the program. D'Moi Hodge was named Defensive Player of the Year, First Team All-League and an All-Defensive selection, while Torrey Patton was an All-League Second Team member. Tre Gomillion collected All-League Third Team and All-Defensive honors. Deante Johnson was on the All-Defensive team.

NATIONAL ATTENTION
Tanner Holden (78% FT) has made 186 free throws (No. 1 in the country) on 240 total attempts (No. 1 nationally), through Friday's games. Holden's 643 total points scored is No. 7 in the country, while his 20.1 points per game average is No. 19 nationally. Grant Basile's rebound work is also among the best in the nation: ranking 22nd nationally with 276 total rebounds, No. 37 nationally in total rebounds/game average with his 8.6 boards per contest and No. 61 in the country with his 5.94 defensive rebounds/game average.

WRIGHT STATE-CLEVELAND STATE IN THE POSTSEASON
Wright State & Cleveland State have met five times in the postseason, with Wright State holding a 3-2 overall advantage and winners of the last two meetings. The last postseason meeting was the 2018 HL Championship game that sent the Raiders to the NCAA Tournament. Wright State also won the 2014 semifinal matchup. Cleveland State won a 2011 second round meeting in the only other meeting this century. The Raiders and Vikings also met in the then-Mid-Continent Conference Tournament in 1994 (CSU win) and 1995 (WSU win).

20 x FIVE?
Head coach Scott Nagy has recorded 20 or more wins in four of his five seasons at Wright State, only missing the mark with 18 wins in last year's COVID-shortened season. The Raiders head to Indianapolis with 19 wins to date.

ANOTHER BROKEN RECORD. . . MAYBE
Heading into the Horizon League semifinals, the Raiders are connecting on free throws at a 76.2 percent clip, which is even with the program record of 76.4 percent FT shooting set by the 2016-17 team.

YOU CAN'T HAVE IT!
Wright State turned the ball over only three times in the quarterfinal victory over Oakland on March 3, the fewest ever for the Raiders under head coach Scott Nagy. The previous minimum didn't last long - the Raiders only committed four turnovers Feb. 11 at Milwaukee - while Wright State only had five giveaways on Dec. 13, 2018 against Northwestern Ohio and have had just six turnovers in a game multiple times under Nagy, including March 6, 2018 in the Horizon League Championship game against Cleveland State.
