FRANKLIN, Wisc. — The Wright State baseball program fell to Milwaukee 7-0 on Thursday night at Franklin Field.
The Raiders dropped to 25-25 and 18-9 in HL play, while the Panthers improved to 20-28 overall and 9-16 against conference opponents. The teams will continue the three-game series tomorrow at 7 p.m. ET.
MKE starting pitcher Riley Frey (5-5) held the Wright State offense in check, limiting the Raiders to five hits and two walks in nine innings.
Andrew Patrick paced WSU at the plate with two singles.
Justin Riemer and
Zane Harris batted 1-for-4 with a walk, while
Gehrig Anglin singled in the ninth inning.
Jake Shirk (5-6) started for the Raiders and was dealt with the loss after allowing six runs on nine hits and a walk in 4.1 innings.
Donnie Nicodemus inherited two runners on base in the bottom of the fifth and proceeded to allow a walk and a three-run triple.
Josh Laisure was a bright spot out of the pen as he struck out two batters in two scoreless frames.
Milwaukee raced out to a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning thanks to an RBI double off the bat of Mitchell Buban and an RBI groundout by Aaron Chapman.
The Panthers doubled their advantage in the bottom of the fourth inning with two runs on four hits and an error. In the bottom of the fifth, Jack Thelen widened MKE's edge to 7-0 with a three-run triple.
Both offenses were shut down for the remainder of the game, with Milwaukee finishing on top 7-0 to seal the series opener.
