Women’s Soccer suffers setback at Butler

INDIANAPOLIS — The Wright State women's soccer program suffered a 4-0 setback against Butler on Thursday evening at the Bud and Jackie Sellick Bowl.

The Raiders fell to 3-2 on the season, while Butler improved to 3-1.

WSU was limited to a season-low four shots in the loss. Lauren Borchert led the attack by tallying two shots, including one on goal.

In the first half, goalkeeper Jessika Seward allowed five goals, compared to two saves. Kiera Sarka replaced Seward in goal for the second half, notching two saves while allowing two goals.

The Bulldogs came out firing with four goals in the opening 22 minutes of the first half. Butler's Katie Soderstrom and Abigail Isger each found the back of the net twice in the hot start. Alli Leonard increased the home squad's lead to 5-0 off a penalty-kick goal with just six minutes remaining in the half.

Wright State attempted to rally back with a pair of shots on goal in the opening half. However, Butler goalkeeper Anna Pierce prevented each shot from reaching the back of the net, resulting in a 5-0 halftime deficit for the Raiders.

The Bulldogs carried their momentum into the second half, as Soderstrom notched her third goal in the 47th minute. The lead increased to 7-0 in favor of Butler at the 83-minute off a goal by Sara Trandji.

The Raiders will continue their non-conference slate on Sunday, September 4, at Eastern Kentucky.
