Late surge leads to 2-0 win over Youngstown State

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio — Second-half goals by Josie Krupp and Marcella Sizer pushed the Wright State women's soccer program to a 2-0 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday afternoon at Farmers National Bank Field.

The Raiders improved to 5-4 overall and 2-0 in HL play, while the Penguins dropped to 2-5-2 and 0-1-1 in the conference.

Wright State was in control for the majority of the Horizon League match, besting YSU in overall shots (12-10), shots on goal (7-4), and corner kicks (9-5).

After a scoreless opening half, Josie Krupp put the Raiders in front with an unassisted goal at the 70-minute mark. The game-leading goal marked the third consecutive game Krupp had scored against Youngstown State, dating back to the spring of 2021. The fifth-year senior added an assist in Wright State's 2-1 win against YSU in 2019.

Sizer contributed with three shots, including two on frame, ultimately resulting in the first goal of her career at WSU in the 79th minute. The senior forward was no stranger to YSU's home field, as she spent the first three seasons of her collegiate career with the Penguins.

Goalkeeper Jessika Seward tallied four saves over 90 minutes en route to her third shutout of the season. Kaylee Pham and Olivia Mace also played the entirety of the game.

Abriana Rondin led the Penguins with team-leading marks in shots (3) and shots on goal (2). Defensively, goalkeeper Brooklynn Kirkpatrick notched five saves.

The Raiders will return to Alumni Field to host Green Bay on Thursday, September 22. The conference matchup will commence at 7 p.m. and stream on ESPN+.
