DAYTON — The Wright State women's soccer program defeated Green Bay 4-1 for its third consecutive win on Thursday night at Alumni Field.
The Raiders improved to 6-4 on the season and 3-0 in Horizon League play, while Green Bay dropped to 2-4-2 overall and 0-1-2 in the conference. The win also built WSU's home record to 3-0.
Wright State was in control for the majority of the game, besting the Phoenix in overall shots (21-8), shots on goal (12-4), and corner kicks (6-2). The Raiders recorded a season-high four goals in the winning effort, as four individuals found the back of the net.
Goalkeeper
Jessika Seward tallied three saves over 90 minutes, allowing just one goal to Green Bay's Emily Murphy in the 50th minute.
Lauren Borchert got things going for the Raiders with her third goal of the season (all at home) in the 26th minute off an assist from
Josie Krupp.
Lena Jenssen increased Wright State's advantage to 2-0 at the 41-minute mark, finding the back of the net off a deflection from a Phoenix defender following a corner kick.
The Raiders carried their momentum into the second half, as
Ashley Vaughn fired a shot off the crossbar that was rebounded in by
Elise Canter for her first collegiate goal in the 47th minute.
The Phoenix attempted to rally with a goal in the 50th minute. However, Wright State answered back at the 65-minute mark with a goal off the foot of
Olga Massombo. Krupp was credited with the assist, her second of the game.
The Raiders led 4-1 for the remainder of the second half, clinching another Horizon League victory.
WSU will return to competition on Sunday, September 25, at IUPUI. The conference matchup will start at 1 p.m. and stream on ESPN+.
