Raiders earn 83-49 road win at Robert Morris

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Five players scored in double figures as the Wright State women's basketball team finished its two-game road swing with an 83-49 victory at Robert Morris on Saturday afternoon inside the UPMC Events Center.

Kacee Baumhower paced the Raiders (3-19, 2-10 HL) with team-leading marks in points (13), rebounds (6), and assists (4), while Isabelle Bolender and Channing Chappell finished with 11 points apiece. Cara VanKempen and Bryce Nixon contributed with 10 points in Wright State's second conference win of the season.

WSU shot 44.6 percent (29-of-65) from the field and 34.4% (12-of-35) on 3-pointers while adding 13 free throw makes on 16 attempts (81.3%). The Raiders also dished out 17 assists compared to a season-low seven turnovers, led by Emily Chapman with five helpers.

Defensively, Wright State enjoyed its most all-around game against a Division I opponent, holding the Colonials (8-13, 2-10 HL) to 31.1% (19-of-61) shooting and just three 3-point makes on 21 attempts (14.3%).

The Raiders' stifling defense led to Robert Morris giving the ball away 18 times. Wright State took advantage on the other end by outscoring the Colonials 18-5 in points off turnovers.

RMU scored the game's first bucket in its opening possession, but WSU followed with a 19-2 run to go up 19-4 with 4:27 remaining in the first quarter. The Raiders built their lead to 27-10 by the end of the third and outscored the Colonials 21-12 in the second period to enter halftime comfortably ahead 48-22.

Eight different Raiders found the scoring column in the half, led by Bolender with 11 points. Meanwhile, RMU was limited to 28.1% (9-of-32) shooting and just one 3-pointer over the first two quarters.

Wright State carried its momentum into the second half as the visitors pushed their advantage to a game-best 40 points, 62-22, with a 14-0 run to open the third quarter. The Raiders never looked back, leading by 20-plus points for the remainder of the game.

WSU had thirteen players receive playing time in the second half, resulting in an 18-11 edge in bench scoring. Catalina Ion provided a spark in the fourth quarter with a team-best four points on back-to-back makes.

Robert Morris' Danielle Vuletich and Simone Morris scored a game-high 14 points apiece to pace the home team in the loss.

The Raiders will continue their Horizon League schedule back home against Northern Kentucky on Thursday, February 2.
