Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Mace nets equalizer in 1-1 draw at PFW

FORT WAYNE, Ind.Olivia Mace's first-half equalizer helped the Wright State women's soccer program to a 1-1 draw at Purdue Fort Wayne on Sunday afternoon at the Hefner Soccer Complex.

WSU (6-5-4, 4-2-2 HL) collected a hard-earned point to remain second in the Horizon League standings. PFW went to 5-6-6 overall and 2-3-4 against conference opponents.

The Raiders found themselves in an early hole, as Purdue Fort Wayne's Kelsey Gallagher scored the match's opening goal in the eighth minute of action. However, Mace netted an equalizer off a corner kick from Caitlin Burger and an ensuing pass from Kaitlyn Eyink for her first collegiate goal in the 22nd minute.

Megan Gregory delivered a shot on goal in the 40th minute, but PFW goalkeeper Samantha Castaneda corralled the scoring opportunity to keep the match tied at 1-all going into halftime.

Wright State was limited to four shots in a scoreless second half of work. Macey Moore tallied a shot on goal in the 80th minute, which ended as WSU's lone on-target strike of the period.

The Raider back line held Purdue Fort Wayne to no shots on frame in the second half. The 'Dons gave a scare with two shots off the top woodwork in the closing minutes, but Wright State held on for the draw.

Both squads finished the match with 12 shots. Lauren Borchert and Mace paced WSU's attack with three shots apiece, including two on goal. Goalkeeper Kiera Sarka totaled two saves compared to one goal allowed.

The Raiders will return to action to face Cleveland State for their regular season road finale on Saturday, October 21, at 7 p.m.
