SCOUTING THE DUKES
Duquesne is 6-6-3 overall with a 3-2-1 mark at home this season and is coming off a 1-1 draw on the road Saturday at Fordham in A-10 action. The Dukes have a trio of common opponents with the Raiders this season, having played Xavier (2-0 Duquesne loss), Robert Morris (1-0 Duquesne win) and Bowling Green (2-2 draw) all at home.
Â
HISTORY VS. DUQUESNE
Wright State leads the all-time series 4-1-1 after playing to 1-1 draw last fall at Alumni Field thanks to Brady Shapiro's 86th minute equalizer. This will be the third straight season the teams have met on the pitch.
Â
LAST TIME OUT…
A handball in the box with five seconds remaining and the resulting penalty kick goal handed Wright State a 2-1 loss on Saturday night against visiting Detroit Mercy. The Raider goal came early in the seventh minute to tie the score as a niffy cross from Reece Allbaugh was sent across the box around seven Detroit Mercy defenders to find Cole Werthmuller, who connected on a shot in stride from the top of the box and tied the game with his goal into the lower left corner.
COLE TRAIN
Cole Werthmuller has been on a tear lately, scoring in four of his last six contests for the Raiders while also recording a season-best seven shots in the Oct. 7 match against Robert Morris. His 27 shots are the second-most on the roster overall while his 15 shots on frame lead the team.
SHARING THE SCORING
Wright State finds itself with three multi-goal scorers nearing the end of the regular season, paced by Cole Werthmuller's four goals. Reece Allbaugh and Henry Hutchinson each have two goals, while the Raiders have also seen six other players chip in one goal each.
DOWN THE STRETCH
The Raiders are playing four of their final six regular season contests on the road, a task that began October 10 at Bellarmine. The road stretch features two non-conference matches and Horizon League matchups at Oakland and Cleveland State. The Raiders will also host Detroit Mercy and Northern Kentucky at home as part of the final stretch.
THREE'S COMPANY
The three second half goals by Wright State on September 19 against Bowling Green matched the most goals in a game this season for the Raiders, who also found the back of the net three times in a 3-3 draw against Saint Francis (PA) on September 2.
Â
FIRST BUT NOT LAST
Wright State's 1-0 win over Milwaukee on September 16 was the first victory for Alex Van der Sluijs as Raider head coach. Van der Sluijs, who spent the 2022 season as a Raider assistant, is no stranger to winning, having racked up 38 victories in four seasons at the helm of Wilmington College prior to coming to Wright State.
Â
PRESEASON POINTS
The Raiders got set for the season with a trio of exhibitions, traveling to face traditional power Indiana to cap the first week of preseason training (1-0 loss, 120 minutes) before home contests against Lake Erie (4-0 win, 105 minutes) and Thomas More (2-2 draw). Conner Osterholt recorded three of Wright State's six total goals, while Charlie Carpenter, Pete Schneider and Cole Werthmuller also all found the back of the net in exhibition action.
Â
NEXT UP
Following the meeting with Duquesne, Wright State heads back on the road for a Saturday night contest at Cleveland State. Saturday's match will get underway at 7 p.m. and is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.
