Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer's second half rally comes up just short

PITTSBURGH – The Wright State men's soccer team tallied a pair of second half goals but came up short on Wednesday night, falling at Duquesne 3-2 in the final non-conference matchup of the season despite a furious second half effort.

Wright State (3-8-4, 2-4-1 Horizon) now turns its attention to a pair of final regular season Horizon League matchups, beginning Saturday night at Cleveland State. The Raiders will begin the weekend with seven points in the League standings, two back of the final tournament spot currently held by Cleveland State (nine points). Wright State closes the regular season next Wednesday at home against Northern Kentucky, who currently is last in the League standings with six points.

On Wednesday, Duquesne (7-6-3) scored a pair of first half goals, both from Tate Mohney, in the eighth and 22nd minutes, before the hosts netted what proved to be the game-winner in the 62nd minute with a goal from Ask Ekeland.

The Raider pressure didn't stop however, with Wright State finding the back of the net in the 70th minute thanks to Brock Pickett's header. After switching sides of the field to Pete Schneider, Pickett made a straight-line dash towards the front of the net, where Noah Boffo's cross was sent in perfectly to Pickett to head into the right corner of the net. Wright State chipped away again in the 80th minute when Reece Allbaugh streaked all the way into the box from midfield before being tackled and awarded a penalty kick opportunity, where he delivered a PK goal into the bottom left corner to pull the Raiders within one.

The Raiders had multiple chances in the closing minutes, with Roman Kedgley's shot blocked with just under four minutes to play, followed moments later by an Allbaugh attempt that forced Duquesne keeper Zoltan Nagy to fully extend and dive to his right to prevent the equalizer. Allbaugh added a final chance with 30 seconds remaining, finding space inside the box before sending his attempt off the outside of the netting just wide from close range.

Wright State finished the night with a 16-12 overall shot advantage, including a 9-6 mark in shots on frame, while forcing Nagy to make seven saves for Duquesne. Allbaugh and Dominic Ruffolo led the way with three shots each, both with a pair on frame, while Jacob Adams and Kober Perlaza each tallied a pair of shots as well. Oscar Juhl-Larsen finished with three saves in addition to his three goals allowed in net for the Raiders.
