DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team battled to a 1-1 draw on Saturday afternoon against Robert Morris at Alumni Field in Horizon League action.
Wright State (3-4-4, 2-2-1 Horizon) now heads back on the road for its next two matches, and four of its final six regular season matches overall, beginning on Tuesday night at Bellarmine. First touch Tuesday is set for 7 p.m. and the match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.
Visiting Robert Morris (4-3-4, 2-2-1 Horizon) got on the board first in the 36th minute off a goal off thanks to a header from Kosi Udeh, who found the back of the net on a free kick opportunity from Darren Gray. The Raiders tallied the equalizer just before the halftime break. Harrison Rhody's throw in late in the 43rd minute went into the box, off
Cole Werthmuller and then to the feet of
Henry Hutchinson. Hutchinson flicked the ball back to Werthmuller, who sent the high angle shot over the RMU keeper and into the far corner of the net.
Both sides had several opportunities in the second half, but none could materialize into a go-ahead goal.
Wright State finished with a 16-14 shot advantage, including a 9-4 differential in shots on frame, led by Werthmuller's seven shots (six on frame). Four Raiders each had two shots each as well. Robert Morris was paced by four shots from Logan Gilley.
Alessandro Malterer finished with two saves for the Raiders, while he got a major assist from the Wright State backline in the opening minutes of the second half. RMU pressure and a bouncing ball was sent on goal, where it changed angles and past the outstretched Malterer but Rhody was there on the line to boot the ball out of the box. RMU's Kieran Gorgenyi finished with eight saves in net for the visitors.
