DAYTON – The Wright State women's basketball team set a new program attendance record on Tuesday morning as the Raiders hosted their annual Education Day game in front of 7,574 fans, falling to visiting Bowling Green 69-48.
Wright State (6-4) now wraps up its final week of the fall academic semester before taking the court again next Monday at West Virginia, where the Raiders will play their second-straight Education Day contest, tipping off at 10 a.m. against the Mountaineers.
Tuesday, Layne Ferrell led the Raiders with 16 points, her sixth game this season with double-digit points scored, while Rachel Loobie finished with 14 points as both players pulled down six rebounds and each tallied two blocks and a steal as well. Kacee Baumhower ended the morning just shy of double digits herself, chipping in nine points, as four other Raiders combined for the remaining nine points.
Wright State finished the game shooting 28.6 percent (18-of-63) from the floor and 4-of-22 from three-point range (18.2 percent), tallying its best shooting quarter coming out of the locker room in the third period as the Raiders shot 67 percent in the 10-minute stretch on the way to scoring 26 points in the quarter.
Bowling Green (6-2) scored nine of the morning's first 11 points before the Raiders chipped away the rest of the first quarter and later cut the margin to one on a Makiya Miller layup early in the second quarter to cap a 10-2 Wright State run. The visitors responded with the next 10 points to gain separation and take a 26-14 lead into the break.
Bowling Green ended the morning shooting 50 percent (27-of-54) from the floor overall and connected on eight of 14 three-pointers (57 percent), including six in the second half. Morgan Sharps paced BG with 19 points and Lexi Fleming added 14 points to pace four players in double figures scoring.
