DAVIDSON, NC – The Wright State men's basketball team saw
AJ Braun turn in 13 of his 16 points in the first half as the Raiders fell 82-73 at Davidson on Saturday afternoon.
Wright State (3-5) now readies to play its next four games at home ahead of the holiday break to close out the remainder of the non-conference schedule. The stretch begins next Thursday night with a 7 p.m. tipoff against Bethel inside the Nutter Center.
The Raiders led for over 10 minutes in a back-and-forth first half that saw Davidson (5-3) take a 43-39 advantage into the break. Wright State opened the second half with a 13-9 run over the first four minutes to pull even at 52-all, but the hosts responded with 13 of the next 15 to push the advantage to double digits with 12 minutes to play.
Wright State cut the deficit to six on three different occasions, with the final time coming via a
Brandon Noel three-pointer with 2:51 to play, but Davidson again had an answer, responding with a 7-2 run to extend the margin back to double digits with just over a minute remaining.
Braun was a perfect 6-for-6 in the opening half, scoring 13 of the Raiders' first 22 points before being limited with foul trouble.
Trey Calvin scored nine of his team-high 17 points in the second half, while
Tanner Holden chipped in eight of his 14 points in the final 20 minutes. Noel was the final Raider in double digits, finishing with 11 points (nine in the second half) while adding a team-high six rebounds.
Wright State finished the night shooting an even 50 percent (31-of-62) while connecting on four of 10 three-point attempts. Davidson shot 58 percent (30-of-52) and was 11-of-30 (37 percent) from three-point range.
Grant Huffman's game-high 20 points led four Davidson players with double digit scoring nights.
