LAS VEGAS – The Wright State women's basketball team's comeback effort came up just short Thursday night against Wyoming, as the Raiders fell 71-61 in the first of two contests in the Holiday Hoops Tournament in Las Vegas.
Wright State (6-6) wraps up tournament play, and its non-conference slate, with a Friday meeting against Presbyterian. Friday's contest is another 5:30 p.m. ET tipoff, and fans can follow the action by watching on FloHoops or following live stats.

On Thursday, Wyoming (5-5) scored the first 12 points of the game before the Raiders clawed back and eventually trailed by that same margin, 32-20 at the break. The third quarter was all Wright State, with the Raiders shooting 11-of-14 (79 percent) in the quarter to outscore the Cowgirls 29-17.
After the two sides traded baskets out of the locker room, the Raiders went on a 22-8 run in the third quarter to pull even, with
Alexis Hutchison scoring 15 of her game-high 28 points in the quarter as Wright State tied the score at 49-all heading into the final 10 minutes. Back-and-forth the first five minutes of the fourth quarter, Wyoming scored eight straight points to gain some breathing room down the stretch and then hit 4-of-6 free throws in the final 30 seconds to seal the game.
Hutchison finished the afternoon 11-of-27 from the floor with a trio of three-pointers, while her seven rebounds also led the Raiders.
Kacee Baumhower notched 18 points, including 12 in the second half, while
Layne Ferrell finished with 11 points.
Rachel Loobie and
Lauren Scott each chipped in a bucket for the only other Wright State scoring.
Despite the strong shooting third quarter, Wright State finished the game at 36 percent shooting (22-of-61) and was 7-of-26 (27 percent) from three-point range. Wyoming shot 53 percent (28-of-53) and connected on 6-of-18 (33 percent) from three. The Cowgirls won the rebounding battle 45-23 and used that for a 22-6 edge in second chance points.
Allyson Fertig (21 points) and Tess Barnes (19 points) were the only double digit scorers for Wyoming as eight different players scored in the win for the Cowgirls.
