YOUNGSTOWN – The Wright State women's basketball team scored the first eight points of the night and never trailed as the Raiders grabbed an 82-68 road win at Youngstown State on Friday night.

On Friday, the Raiders shot 47 percent in the opening quarter as they jumped out to the early lead while holding Youngstown State (4-9, 0-3 Horizon) to just a 22 percent shooting mark in the first 10 minutes. Wright State doubled up and shot 47 percent again in the second quarter and took a 37-28 lead into the break, using the margin to withstand Youngstown State's third quarter push that saw the hosts shoot 70 percent and cut the Raider lead to six. Wright State never trailed in the contest that also never saw a tied score.
The margin was again at six with eight minutes to play when
Layne Ferrell grabbed a steal and connected with
Kacee Baumhower, who finished off an old-fashioned three-point play to kick start an 8-2 Raider run that pushed the lead back to double digits for the rest of the night.
Alexis Hutchison notched 17 of her game-high 26 points in the first half, while Baumhower added 15 points and Ferrell finished with 14 of her own.
Rachel Loobie notched eight points and six rebounds while
Jada Tate grabbed six rebounds as well. Wright State saw 10 different players finish in the scoring column, also getting eight different players to record both a rebound and a steal in the win.
Wright State finished the win shooting 48 percent overall (28-of-58) despite connecting on just 3-of-18 from three-point range, their lowest mark from deep this season. The difference came at the free throw line, where the Raiders went a season-high 31 times, connecting on 23 attempts, also a season-best. Wright State also added 40 points in the paint and finished with 23 points off 22 Youngstown State turnovers. Youngstown State shot 42 percent (25-of-60) after the slow start.
