Track & Field ready for Steemer Showcase

DAYTON — The Wright State track and field program will compete in nearby Springfield, Ohio for the Wittenberg Invitational on Saturday, January 18. The meet will serve as the final tune-up before the Raiders head to Purdue Fort Wayne for the Horizon League Indoor Championship from February 25-26.
Field events will get underway at 11 a.m. inside the Steemer Center before running events begin at noon with the 60-meter dash prelims. The meet will stream on Wittenberg's YouTube channel. Live results will also be provided.Â

LAST TIME OUT
The women's team placed seventh out of eight programs, while the Raider men earned fourth out of six teams at last weekend's Marshall Invitational.Â
>> Cierra Lively collected a pair of top-five finishes, earning third in the high jump (1.63m) and fourth in the triple (11.60m).Â
>> The quartet of Kaitlyn Miller, Kylee Thomas, Anna Johnson, and Emma Shigley raced to third place in the women's distance medley with a time of 12:35.44. WSU's Alicia Neumeier, Mia Wyngarden, Alycea Ruhlen, and Emma Johnson finished fourth in the event at 12:40.28.Â
>> Shigley also headlined the Raiders in the 3,000-meter run with a seventh-place mark (10:24.79).
>> Kylee Thomas and Callista Hess finished ninth and 13th in the 60-meter hurdle prelims with times of 9.73 and 10.83.Â
>> Miller claimed 11th overall in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:24.27. A. Johnson finished 23rd at 2:32.73.Â
>> Wright State had five individuals race in the 400-meter dash, led by Neumeier in 18th place at 1:01.17 and followed by Thomas (19th, 1:01.33), Wyngarden (22nd, 1:04.14), Ruhlen (24th, 1:05.42), and Emma Carr (25th, 1:08.40).
>> Briana Morrisette paced the Raiders in the long jump by placing 10th out of 16 competitors at 4.87 meters. She also raced to 19th place in the 60-meter dash prelims (8.47) and 34th in the 200-meter dash (29.03).Â
>> The Raider men had their top showing in the 800-meter run with three top-10 finishers. Tayton Hess led the group in fifth with a time of 1:59.17, while Patrick Statzer was sixth (1:59.90) and Mohamed Bilal was ninth (2:10.12).
>> Ethan Neblock impressed in the 3,000-meter run by finishing eighth out of 15 competitors with a time of 9:02.19.
>> Wright State had two groups compete in the men's distance medley as the only school in the event. Statzer, Bilal, Neblock, and Alex McCarty earned a time of 10:47.90, while the foursome of Alan Fullenkamp, John Steimle, Blake Martin, and Michael Cole followed at 11:12.92.Â
>> Anthony Jiovani was second out of three competitors in the men's pole vault with a clearance of 3.70 meters.

The Raider men are in their inaugural season of competition, as Wright State announced the addition of men's indoor track & field and outdoor track & field in April 2022. The Raiders previously had student-athletes competing unattached in various indoor and outdoor meets over the years.
