Raiders cap Senior Day with 86-74 win over Detroit Mercy

DAYTON — The Wright State women's basketball program celebrated Senior Day with an 86-74 victory over Detroit Mercy at the Nutter Center on Saturday afternoon. 

The Raiders (7-23, 6-14 HL) conclude the regular season on a two-game winning streak and will turn their attention to a Horizon League Championship opening round matchup at No. 8 seed Oakland on Tuesday, February 28.

The senior trio of Isabelle Bolender, Emily Chapman, and Bryce Nixon combined for 47 points and nine 3-pointers in the victory. Bolender scored a career-high 25 points, finishing 7-of-12 from the field and 5-of-8 on 3-pointers. Chapman poured in 14 points and dished out a team-high six assists, while Nixon added eight points and two steals.

Kacee Baumhower contributed with 15 points on 5-of-10 shooting, while Rachel Loobie totaled eight points and a team-best six rebounds off the bench.

WSU featured an aggressive approach offensively by reaching the free throw line a season-high 25 times. The Raiders made 22 of the 25 attempts, led by Makiya Miller with a 7-of-8 mark. Bolender went 6-of-6 at the line, while Baumhower converted on all five of her attempts.

Wright State also made double-digit threes for the 16th time this season, going 12-of-29 (41.4%) from deep. Bolender, Chapman, and Nixon finished with multiple 3-pointers. Cara VanKempen, Channing Chappell, and Lauren Scott netted one apiece.

The Raiders faced a 16-12 deficit at the end of the first quarter after shooting 25% (4-of-16) from the field and 16.7% (1-of-6) on 3-pointers. However, WSU outscored Detroit Mercy (5-24, 3-17 HL) 60-38 over the following two quarters to gain a 72-54 advantage.

Wright State caught fire with a 7-of-11 mark from deep in the second quarter, paced by Bolender with 14 points. WSU continued to thrive offensively with 33 points on 11-of-15 shooting in the third quarter. Baumhower scored 11 of her 15 points in the span, while Nixon and Chapman had five points apiece. 

The Raiders led by double digits for the entirety of the fourth quarter to seal a win in its regular-season finale.
