DAYTON — The Wright State baseball program dropped its series opener to Army West Point 8-1 on Saturday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
The teams will continue the Saturday doubleheader at 2:45 p.m. Fans can follow the action via live stats.
The Raiders (3-9) raced out to a quick 1-0 lead, as
Justin Riemer led off the bottom of the first inning with a solo home run. However, Army answered back with an RBI double in the third inning and a two-run homer in the fourth inning to go up 3-1.
The Black Knights scored a run on a throwing error in the top of the sixth inning and added four runs on four hits in the sixth frame to extend their advantage to 8-1.
Army starting pitcher Tanner Gresham fired a complete game, limiting the WSU offense to one run on two hits and two walks in seven innings of work. The Raiders were scoreless on one hit in the last six frames.
Jake Shirk took the loss for Wright State after allowing five runs, four earned, on eight hits and one walk in six innings of work.
Garrett Peters was tagged for three runs on three hits out of the pen.
