
Mathiesen takes individual title, Raiders second at Sea Palms Invite

ST SIMONS ISLAND, GA – Mikkel Mathiesen birdied the first playoff hole on Saturday afternoon to take home individual top honors at the Sea Palms Invitational as the Wright State golf team finished second as a group at the event.
Mathiesen finished the week at 13-under with his final round 67 to finish with a 54-hole score of 200, while he and Tyler Goecke, who finished seventh at nine-under (204), were two of seven individuals who broke the previous individual 54-hole scoring mark of 205.
Wright State finished at 30-under for the tournament with a 274 final round card for an 822 tournament total, as the Raiders were one of 11 teams who broke the previous tournament 54-hole team scoring mark of 866 set by Wright State in 2022.
Mathiesen, who began the final round in third place at nine-under, bogeyed his opening hole Saturday before rolling off three birdies and an eagle over the remainder of his first nine holes as he added two more birdies and a pair of bogeys on the back nine to finish the day at four-under with a round of 67. He went into the playoff with Erik Jansson of Jacksonville State, who was three-under on Saturday as Mathiesen tracked him down throughout the day on the individual leaderboard.
Goecke tallied five of his six final round birdies over his first nine holes on the way to his five-under 66 on Saturday to finish seventh at nine-under as he jumped four spots on the leaderboard to his finishing location. Davis Root played an even par 71 final round with four birdies to finish two-under for the tournament in a tie for 18th, while Andrew Flynn finished one shot back of Root at two-under overall in a tie for 23rd after an even-par final round of his own.
Cole Corder's final round scorecard featured an eagle three on the par five fourth hole as he finished the Saturday with a one-under 70 to end the week two-over overall (t37), while Adam Horn, playing as an individual, saw four birdies scattered around his final round card as he had a final round 75 to finish 14-over (t94) four the tournament.
Wright State is back in action in two weeks in North Carolina as the Raiders play in the Seahawk Intercollegiate March 26 and 27.
