Raiders open outdoor season at Blizzard Buster

DAYTON — The Wright State men's and women's track and field program begins its outdoor season on Friday, March 17, at the Miami Blizzard Buster.Â
Action at the George L. Rider Track will get underway at 9 a.m. with field events. Running events will commence at 10:30 a.m. with the women's 5,000-meter run. The Raiders will compete alongside meet host Miami (OH) in addition to Ball State, Bowling Green, Butler, Dayton, Grand Valley State, Northern Kentucky, Purdue Fort Wayne, Western Michigan, Xavier, and several other schools.

LAST TIME OUT
WSU last competed at the Horizon League Indoor Championship from February 25-26 in Fort Wayne, Ind. The women's team placed ninth with 11 points, while the Raider men finished eighth in the standings with seven points.
>> Cierra Lively tallied five points for the women's team by placing fourth in the high jump with a clearance of 1.65 meters.Â
>> Anthony Jiovani recorded the first-ever points for the Raider men at a championship meet, placing seventh overall in the pole vault with a clearance of 3.71 meters. The mark tied his personal record in the event.
The distance medley relay team of Emma Johnson, Kylee Thomas, Alicia Neumeier, and Kaitlyn Miller took fourth overall with a time of 12:26.23. Ethan Neblock, Mohamed Bilal, Patrick Statzer, and Alex McCarty raced to a time of 10:32.75 in the men's distance medley relay, good for two points in the championship meet.Â
Mohamed Bilal, Patrick Statzer, Michael Cole, and John Steimle added two points with a seventh-place finish in the men's 4x400-meter relay. The quartet of Mia Wyngarden, Neumeier, Kylee Thomas, and Bekah Robertson earned eighth at 4:05.90 on the women's side of the event.
>> Alicia Neumeier added a top-10 finish in the women's mile run, as she ran to 10th place with a time of 5:10.64. Kaitlyn Miller was close behind in 12th place (5:13.64), while Anna Johnson and Alycea Ruhlen took 25th (5:32.51) and 26th (5:33.01) in the event.
Alex McCarty raced 10th overall in the men's mile run with a time of 4:22.77. Ethan Neblock (20th, 4:32.59), Nathan Childs (24th, 4:49.33), and Jacob Wellman (5:31.71) followed McCarty in the event.

After the Miami Blizzard Buster, the Raiders will head to nearby Cedarville, Ohio, for the Yellow Jacket Invitational on Saturday, March 25. A small contingent of runners will compete at the Raleigh Relays from March 23-25.Â
