GREEN BAY, Wisc. — The No. 9 seed Wright State women's basketball program fell to top-seeded Green Bay 85-57 in the Horizon League Championship quarterfinals on Thursday night inside the Kress Center.
The Raiders finished the 2022-23 season 8-24 overall, a four-win improvement from last year's record. WSU shattered a single-season school record with 323 3-pointers, averaging 10.1 threes per game.
Three players scored in double figures, led by
Rachel Loobie with 12 points (matched career high) on 5-of-5 shooting and a 2-of-2 mark from beyond the arc.
Bryce Nixon poured in 11 points, while
Makiya Miller had 10 points for her sixth double-figure scoring performance of the season.
Isabelle Bolender added nine points, reaching 1,000 collegiate points in the fourth quarter.
Wright State recorded double-digit threes for the 18th time this season, going 11-of-34 (34.4%) from deep. Defensively,
Emily Chapman pulled down a team-best eight rebounds, followed by Loobie with five boards.
Catalina Ion and Bolender both tallied one steal.
Green Bay (26-4) shot 48.6% (34-of-70) overall and 42.9% (9-of-21) on 3-pointers while also besting WSU in points in the paint (44-14), second-chance points (18-9), and rebounding (44-28).
The Phoenix raced out to a 30-9 lead after one quarter of play, going 12-of-20 (60%) from the field and 55.6% (5-of-9) on 3-pointers. Meanwhile, Wright State was limited to a 21.4% (3-of-14) shooting mark in the opening period.
A 3-pointer by Chapman closed WSU's deficit to 33-15 at the 9:00 minute mark of the second quarter. However, Green Bay responded with an 8-0 run to build its lead to 41-15 with 5:58 left in the first half. Wright State remained down by 20-plus points for the rest of the quarter, trailing 52-25 at the half.
Loobie paced the Raiders with seven points on 3-of-3 shooting in the first half, while Chapman totaled five points, five rebounds, and three assists.
Wright State's deficit increased 74-42 by the end of the third quarter, closing a potential comeback. Miller found a rhythm for WSU in the period with five points on 2-of-2 shooting.
The Raiders were at their best in the fourth quarter, outscoring Green Bay 15-11. The Wright State defense led the strong finish by holding GB to just four field goals and turning five turnovers into eight points.
