Raiders move into second; Goecke & Mathiesen tied for second individually going into final round

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, FL – The Wright State golf team carded a three-under 285 in Monday's second round at the Horizon League Championship, the lowest team score of the day, as the Raiders moved to within a shot of first place heading into the final round.

Individually, Mikkel Mathiesen and Tyler Goecke are each tied for second at one-over heading into Tuesday, while Davis Root (t7th) is also inside the top 10.

Action wraps up on Tuesday with 18 holes in the final round, with the Raiders set to tee off between 8:20 and 9 a.m., all from the first tee. Purdue Fort Wayne will take the team lead into the final round at four-over after posting a second-straight 290 team score. Kasey Lilly is the individual leader at three-under with 18 holes to play.

Wright State started off the 10th tee on Monday, tallying nine birdies and four eagles over their opening nine holes. The Raiders joined the rest of the field with some struggles on the front nine, combining for four birdies compared to 11 bogeys and a double bogey. Purdue Fort Wayne carded 11 bogeys as a group over the front nine holes as well but added three double bogeys and a triple bogey after having nine birdies and an eagle on the back nine after also starting off the 10th tee.

Mathiesen jumped two spots with his one-under 71 on Monday, two shots behind Lilly for the individual lead, after a quick start that saw him record a pair of eagles over his first five holes on the back nine. Mathiesen danced around a pair of front nine bogeys with six straight pars to close his second round for the 71. Goecke moved four spots up the individual leaderboard with is two-under round of 70, which was tied for the low score of the day, thanks to three birdies across the back nine before playing even par golf on the front nine after two birdies and two bogeys canceled each other out.

Root carded a one-over 73 on Monday, recording an eagle on the par five 14th and adding eight pars across the front nine on his way to moving up three spots on the individual leaderboard. Andrew Flynn also eagled the 14th and added three birdies on the back nine as part of his one-under 71, jumping 16 spots into a tie for 14th. Cole Corder tallied a three-over 75 in his second round and is tied for 25th at eight-over heading into the final round.
