Alex Theis signs professional contract with Florence Y’alls

DAYTON — Wright State's Alex Theis signed a professional contract with the Florence Y'alls of the Frontier League on Thursday afternoon.
Theis joined Wright State in 2020 after time at Ohio State and Sinclair Community College. The New Riegel, Ohio native compiled an 11-3 career record with 179 strikeouts in 132.0 innings pitched over the course of his career with the Raiders.
The left-hander earned All-Horizon League Second Team honors during the 2022 season, as he went 6-1 on the mound with a 3.36 earned run average and 87 strikeouts in 59.0 innings. Theis ranked 10th nationally with a conference-leading 13.27 strikeouts per nine innings while also tallying top-five HL marks in wins (T-1st), ERA (3rd), strikeouts (3rd), and strikeouts looking (4th, 23).
Theis appeared in 24 games as a redshirt senior in 2023, helping Wright State to its sixth NCAA Tournament appearance in the last eight seasons. He finished with 50 strikeouts in 38.2 innings of work and held opponents to a .250 batting average.
The Y'alls are based within the Greater Cincinnati Region and are a member of the West Division of the Frontier League, an independent professional baseball league. Formed in 1993, the Frontier League is the oldest currently running independent league in the United States and became an official MLB Partner League in 2020. The league has a partnership agreement with the California Winter League for player development.
