TEMPE, Ariz. —
Kiera Sarka's career-high five saves were not enough, as the Wright State women's soccer program dropped its season opener to Arizona State 4-0 on Thursday night at Sun Devil Soccer Stadium.
Wright State (0-1) entered halftime in a scoreless tie against Arizona State (1-0) despite being outshot 13-0. Sarka tallied four saves in the stretch to keep the Raiders in contention.
The Sun Devils pulled away with four goals in the second half. ASU's Keri Matthews found the back of the net in the 45th and 48th minutes, while Enasia Colon scored in the 73rd and 76th minutes.
Marina Ruthsatz tallied Wright State's first and only shot of the match in the 63rd minute. However, Sun Devil goalkeeper Pauline Nelles corralled the save to keep the Raiders off the scoreboard.
Sarka was Wright State's lone player to log 90 minutes of action.
Kaylee Pham added 87 minutes, while
Zara Graff had 85 minutes of playing time in her collegiate debut. A total of 21 Raiders touched the field, including seven newcomers.
Wright State will remain out west for a non-conference meeting at Grand Canyon on Sunday, August 20. The match will start at 10 p.m. ET and stream live on ESPN+.
