Raiders post second consecutive shutout in scoreless draw at Morehead State

MOREHEAD, Ky. — The Wright State women's soccer program posted its second consecutive shutout, battling Morehead State to a scoreless draw on Wednesday evening at Jayne Stadium.

WSU (1-2-2) extended its unbeaten streak to three matches in the tie. The Raiders will look to gain their second win of the year on Sunday evening against crosstown foe Dayton at Alumni Field.

Wright State outshot Morehead State 14-9 in total shots, which included a substantial 9-1 edge in the second half. The Raiders also bested the Eagles (1-2-1) in corner kicks, 8-7, and saves, 3-2.

Goalkeepers Erin Baker and Kiera Sarka combined for the shutout in net. Baker earned a clean sheet while tallying three saves in the first half. Sarka replaced Baker coming out of halftime and did not face a shot on goal in the remaining 45 minutes of play.

Ashley Vaughn, Marcella Sizer, and Addy Canter led the WSU attack with two shots apiece, while Lauren Borchert and Kaylin Helinski added shots on goal. Kaitlyn Eyink anchored the Raider back line with a team-leading 90 minutes of playing time.

The Raiders went into the halftime break in a scoreless tie with MSU after holding the Eagles to eight shots, just three on goal, in the first 45 minutes of action. Baker recorded three saves in goal to pace Wright State's defense, while the Raider attack added five off-target shots and three corners.

WSU was inches away from taking the lead in the 51st minute of the second half as Borchert fired a shot off the top crossbar. Helinski tallied a shot on goal at the 76-minute mark, but MSU goalkeeper Erin Gibbs corralled the save to keep the match scoreless.

The Raiders made a late push with two shots and two corner kicks in the final 10 minutes of the second half. However, Wright State was kept off the scoreboard in the span to seal its second-straight tie.
