This Week in Wright State Athletics: September 11-17

A busy week on the calendar awaits the Raiders with five teams in action, including volleyball hosting the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational.

CROSS COUNTRY | GOLF | MEN'S SOCCER | WOMEN'S SOCCER | VOLLEYBALL

Women's Soccer
The Wright State women's soccer team opens Horizon League play this Thursday at Green Bay. The conference match will begin at 5 p.m. ET and stream on ESPN+. The Raiders are coming off a 2-1 victory over Akron last Sunday, where Sophia Kuerze paced the attack with her first collegiate goal and assist. Marcella Sizer notched the game-winning score on a header at the 73-minute mark of the second half.

Men's Soccer
The Wright State men's soccer team began its Horizon League schedule with a 2-0 defeat on Saturday at IUPUI. The Raiders recorded 10 shots and were led by Reece Allbaugh's four shots, while Cole Werthmuller had two shots. The Raiders are back in action on Tuesday afternoon when they head back to non-conference action with a trip to Eastern Illinois. Tuesday's first touch is set for 5 p.m. ET and the match is expected to be streamed on ESPN+.

Volleyball
The Wright State volleyball team continued early season action at the Dayton Invitational last weekend, with highlights including a four-set win over Ball State and a spot on the all-tournament team for Jenny Wessling. The Raiders now return home for the first time this season as host of the Tru by Hilton Dayton Beavercreek Invitational Thursday, Friday and Saturday inside McLin Gymnasium. Wright State takes on Butler Thursday night at 6 p.m. and faces Cincinnati at 2 p.m. Saturday, with Butler and Cincinnati facing each other on Friday afternoon (2 p.m.).

Cross Country
The Wright State cross country teams are back in action this Friday as the Raiders make the short trip to compete in the All-Ohio Championships, hosted by Cedarville. The men's 8K race will start at 6 p.m., followed at 6:40 p.m. with the women's 6K race. WSU began its 2023 season by hosting the Mike Baumer Cross Country Classic at Fairborn Community Park. The women's team placed fifth out of 15 teams, while the Raider men took ninth overall. 

Golf
The Wright State golf team continued its fall 2023 schedule Sunday morning with the opening round of  the Golfweek Fall Challenge in South Carolina. The Raiders will play their second round on Monday before wrapping up tournament action on Tuesday. This is the second of five fall events for Wright State.
