Women's Basketball slips up against Green Bay

DAYTON – The Wright State women's basketball team used a strong fourth quarter push on Sunday but it wasn't enough as the Raiders fell to visiting Green Bay 75-63 inside the Nutter Center.

Wright State (10-7, 4-2 Horizon) has a quiet week ahead, with only a Thursday night road contest at IUPUI on the horizon.

On Sunday, Green Bay (12-3, 5-0 Horizon) started hot and led 18-6 after the opening quarter before the Raiders began to chip away the rest of the afternoon. Down 21 at the break, Wright State battled and trimmed the margin to 15 heading into the fourth quarter. After Green Bay hit the first basket of the fourth quarter, the Raiders responded with 12 of the next 14 points thanks in part to a pair of three-pointers and scoring from four different players to pull to within seven at 59-52 with 6:27 to play. Green Bay answered with the next six points to push the margin back to double digits to close the afternoon.

Wright State saw three players finish in double digits, led by Kacee Baumhower's 19 points, while Rachel Loobie had 16 points and Alexis Hutchison chipped in 11 points. Layne Ferrell finished with five points but had full stat line with eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks, all team highs in the loss.

The Raiders finished the afternoon shooting 34 percent overall (21-of-62) while shooting above 50 percent in both the second and fourth quarters. Wright State connected on 9-of-32 (28 percent) on three-pointers, three in each of the last three quarters after going 0-of-8 in the first 10 minutes. Green Bay was held to 19 percent shooting in the third quarter but finished the afternoon shooting 43 percent overall (25-of-58) with a 33 percent mark (5-15) from deep. Wight State connected at 86 percent from the free throw line (12-of-14) but Green Bay had 11 more attempts and was 20-of-25 (80 percent) for the afternoon, including a 12-o0f-16 mark in the second half.
