ROCHESTER, MI – The Wright State volleyball team wrapped up the regular season on Saturday afternoon, seeing
Mya Ayro tally a career-high 21 kills, but the Raiders fell in five sets to Oakland.
Wright State (24-5, 16-2 Horizon) now turns its attention to next week's 2024 Horizon League Championship, which the Raiders will host inside McLin Gymnasium. Tournament action will get underway on Friday before Wright State takes on the lowest remaining seed on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m., with the Championship set for 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Saturday against Oakland (8-22, 4-14 HL), Ayro finished with the 21 kills on 45 attempts for a .267 hitting percentage. The Raiders had three other players notch double figure kills, with
Sam Ott (14),
Elena Dubuc and
Reilly Zegunis (11 each) joining Ayro.
The Raiders won the opening two sets convincingly by scores of 25-12 and 25-14 while recording just seven combined errors between the two sets. Oakland came back to take set three 25-20 before a 25-22 fourth set win and a 15-6 final set victory to grab the reverse sweep. Wright State totaled 22 errors in the final three sets, while Oakland had just three errors over the same stretch.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 56 of the Raiders' 65 assists, adding four of the five Wright State service aces and collecting 20 digs for a double-double, while
Jenny Wessling finished with 22 digs and
Jenny Morey added 16 digs of her own.
