Men’s Soccer Ends Season with 4-1 Win Over NKU

 HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Kentucky – The Wright State men's soccer team ended the 2024 season with a 4-1 win over Northern Kentucky on Tuesday afternoon. The four Raider goals came from Edwin Espinal-Elvir, Felix Ezekwuka, Henry Hutchinson, and Conner Osterholt.
 
Wright State (7-9-2, 3-5-1 HL) ended the day with seven shots to Northern Kentucky's (3-6-7, 2-3-4 HL) ten. Wright State bested the Norse in shots on goal 6-4 and saves 3-2. Leading the Raiders was Ezekwuka with two shots, both on goal, followed by Hutchinson with two shots, one on goal, and Burkett with one shot on goal. Goalkeeper Joel Shaw had three saves on the day.
 
The Raiders put up just two shots in the first half, first with a shot on goal by Burkett in the fifth minute. The second Raider shot came as a goal, as Hutchinson controlled the ball just inside the box, passing to Cole Werthmuller to who swiftly passed to Osterholt to find the back of the net in the 23rd minute. Northern Kentucky was quick to react, tying the score with their only goal of the day in the 32nd minute. Shaw recorded his only save of the half in the final minute.
 
Wright State regained their advantage in the 65th minute as Osterholt took a corner kick, placing it in the box for Ezekwuka to put it past the goalkeeper and two defenders, finding the bottom right corner. Hutchinson followed with a shot in the 75th before finding the back of the net in the 84th. The goal came as Espinal-Elvir sped down the pitch, passing to Hutchinson just outside the box. Hutchinson battled a Norse defender before pushing it past the keeper, finding the bottom right corner. Espinal-Elvir followed, receiving a pass from Osterholt then shooting from outside the box, sinking it in the center, ending the day 4-1.
 
The Raiders end their 2024 campaign with seven wins and two ties, taking down three conference opponents. Four victories came on Alumni Field, and three in road matches.
