PHEONIX, Arizona - The Wright State's women's basketball team fell to Georgia Southern 88-82 Thursday afternoon. The Raiders will wrap up play in the GCU Have Fayth Christmas Classic at 12 p.m. ET on Saturday, December 21 against Florida Atlantic. The game will stream on the GCU Lopes Broadcasting Network and have live stats provided.
Wright State (2-10) finished with a 44.4 field goal percentage, going 11-of-21 from behind the arc, and shot 71.4 percent on the free throw line. Two Raiders scored in double-figures, led by
Claire Henson with 16 points and
Ellie Magestro-Kennedy with 15 points.
Chloe Chard Peloquin and
Lauren Scott each added nine points for the Raiders,
Rylee Sagester added eight points, and
Amaya Staton had seven points. The Raiders grabbed 25 off the backboard, led by Chard Peloquin with seven rebounds. Henson led the team in assists (7), while Taylor had three of the Raiders ten steals.
WSU was up 23-21 after the 1st quarter shooting 57.1% overall from the floor. Henson and Staton combined for ten points, scoring five each, while the Raider defense held the Georgia Southern to shooting 7-of-18 from the floor.
Wright State raised their lead 57-39 at the half, putting up 34 points to the Eagle's 18 in the second quarter. Henson led the team reaching double-figures in the second quarter, sinking two field goals and going 6-of-8 on the line. The quarter was highlighted by an 11-point run, taking a 44-33 lead after Georgia Southern tied the score at 33.
Georgia Southern had a strong turn around after the half, putting up 27 points to the Raider's 15, shooting 64.7 percent from the floor while holding WSU to a 33.3 field goal percentage. Going into the final period, the Eagles were in a just six-point deficit, 72-66, and tied the game at 74 with five minutes remaining. The final quarter stayed close with three lead changes, with the Eagle's coming out on top 88-82.
Georgia Southern was led by two 20-point scorers, Leah Johnson (24) and Indya Green (22). Green made it a double-double, grabbing a team leading 13 rebounds. Overall, the Eagles shot 48.4 percent from the floor and 23.1 percent for three.
