Cotterill has Season High Scoring in Loss to Florida Atlantic

PHEONIX, Arizona – The Wright State women's basketball team ended the GCU Have Fayth Christmas Classic with a 68-52 loss to Florida Atlantic on Saturday. The Raiders will return home to resume Horizon League play, hosting Purdue Fort Wayne on Saturday, December 28. The game is set for a 2 p.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.
 
Wright State (2-11) ended the day shooting 31.7 percent from the floor, going 10-of-11 on the free throw line. Amaya Staton headed the way for WSU, tallying 10 points and shooting 5-of-12. Following Staton was Freshman forward Florrie Cotterill, recording a collegiate best eight points. Claire Henson and Makiya Miller each had seven points on the day, followed by Macie Taylor with six points. Ellie Magestero-Kennedy and Lauren Scott both added five points for the Raiders.
 
WSU finished with 33 rebounds, led by Henson and Staton with eight each. Miller and Taylor combined for six of the Raider's 11 assists, each recording three, followed by Henson and Olivia Brown with two each. Wright State had four steals on the day, two from Taylor and one each by Henson and Miller.
 
The Raiders shot 40 percent in the first quarter, led by Miller going two-of-two from the floor. The Owls were the first on the board, putting up a layup in the first minute, but WSU quickly tied the game with a second chance layup by Staton. Miller put up the first three of the day, giving WSU the advantage 5-2. The quarter stayed close, with three ties and four lead changes.
 
WSU struggled in the second, putting up only three field goals with 16 shots. The Owls held a game high 22-point lead five minutes into the quarter, as the Raiders were scoreless until four minutes remained. Breaking the streak was Cotterill, putting up her first of four field goals. Henson followed with a fast break layup, drawing a foul to make it three. Magestro-Kennedy sunk the Raider's second three, lowering FAU's advantage to 14, 35-21.
 
WSU outscored the Owls in the third 15-10, as Cotterill led the team shooting three-of-four, the best of either team in the quarter. Cotterill's put up her first layup with 5:19 left on the clock, sinking back-to-back layups with under four minutes.
 
The Raiders put up their best field goal percentage in the final quarter, shooting 42.9 percent. Staton led the fourth, going three-of-five from the floor for six points. Taylor followed with four points, made up by a fast break layup and two shots on the line.
 
Florida Atlantic (8-5) was led by Jada Moore with 20 points, going 8-of-15 from the floor and four-of-four on the line. Mya Perry closely trailed with 19 points. Ta'Ziah Jenks had a team high eight rebounds, followed by Moore's seven rebounds. Perry and Emaya Lewis combined for four of the Owl's six blocks, while Jenks and Moore combined for four of their eight steals.
