DAYTON – The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Purdue Fort Wayne 76-49 on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders will play again after the new year, traveling to Milwaukee on Thursday, January 2. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tipoff and will stream on ESPN+.
Wright State (2-12, 0-4 HL) ended the day shooting 29.3 percent overall from the floor, going 31.3 from three and 10-of-12 on the free throw line. Leading the way for the Raiders were
Ellie Magestro-Kennedy and
Makiya Miller, each recording nine points.
Lauren Scott and
Macie Taylor followed with seven points each.
Claire Henson led the team with three assists, closely trailed by Scott with two.
The Raiders finished grabbing 37 off the backboard, led by
Amaya Staton with seven. Henson and Miller added five rebounds each, as Henson grabbed all five defensively.
Abbie Riddle led the team with a career high of two steals, while Staton had a season high of three blocks.
The Raiders were down by eight after the first quarter, 18-10, as they were held to shooting 4-of-16 from the floor, with just one three-pointer by Miller. The Mastodons persisted in the second, allowing just one three-pointer and two shots on the line by Wright State. PFW added 25 points in the second to take a 43-15 lead at the half.
The Raiders outscored PFW 34-33 in the second half, shooting 40 percent from the floor and 42.9 percent from three. Wright State added 14 points in the third quarter, shooting 33.3 percent overall, while Staton blocked two of the 'Don's shots. WSU continued into the fourth, outscoring PFW 20-18 as the Raiders shot a game-best 46.7 percent from the floor and 60 percent from three. Magestro-Kennedy led the team, tallying all nine points in the final quarter, going three-of-four from behind the arc.
Purdue Fort Wayne finished shooting 41.5 percent from the floor, 28.6 percent from three, and 73.7 percent on the line. The 'Dons had four double-figure scorers, led by Amellia Bromenschenkel with 16 points, followed by Sydney Freeman and Lauren Ross with 12 points, and Jazzlyn Linbo with 10 points. Linbo led the team in rebounds, grabbing eight off the backboard, as well as blocks (2) and steals (3).
