BOWLING GREEN, OH – Another magical season for the Wright State volleyball team came to an end on Thursday night, as the Raiders fell in four sets to Bowling Green in the Super 16 round of the NIVC tournament.
Wright State wraps up the season with a 24-7 overall record and captured its third straight Horizon League regular season title this fall - the Raiders' fifth HL regular season championship in the last six years. The Raiders grabbed a pair of major awards and nine overall honors in the 2024 Horizon League Volleyball Awards, led by
Lauren Yacobucci's Setter of the Year honor.
Travers Green was named the Horizon League Coach of the Year for the third straight season. Yacobucci's selection gives Wright State its third-straight HL Setter of the Year honor and fourth in five seasons. Wright State recorded three First Team honors, with
Sam Ott and
Reilly Zegunis joining Yacobucci, while
Jenny Wessling earned Second Team recognition and both
Haley Robinson and
Katie Sowko were named to the All-Freshman Team.
On Thursday night, Bowling Green (23-9) took the opening set 25-18 before the Raiders fought back to take the second set by a 25-13 margin. After the hosts pulled out a 25-23 win in the third set, Bowling Green closed the night with a 25-17 fourth set final.
Wright State hit .240 overall on the night with 48 kills and 19 total errors while Bowling Green finished at a .316 hitting mark with 60 kills and 18 total errors.
Sam Ott led the Raiders with a team-best 14 kills in her final collegiate match, adding seven digs, a service ace and a block, while
Reilly Zegunis tallied 12 kills and three blocks and
Mya Ayro added 10 kills and eight digs.
Taylor Bransfield chipped in seven kills of her own.
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 43 of the Raiders' 46 assists, adding seven digs and three blocks, while
Jenny Morey's 14 digs led seven Wright State players in the dig column.
