ROCHESTER, Michigan –
Rylee Sagester tallied a career high 17 points, going 5-of-11 for three in an 84-70 loss at Oakland on Friday night. The Raiders will play again on Monday, December 16, hosting Cleveland State for a 7 p.m. game.
The Raiders (2-7, 0-2 HL) finished shooting 38.1 percent overall from the floor, 29.6 percent for three, and went 14-of-18 on the line. Following Sagester's 17 points was
Chloe Chard Peloquin, recording 13 and
Amaya Staton with 11.
Ellie Magestro-Kennedy recorded nine points on the night, matching her career best, closely trailed by
Abbie Riddle with eight points.
Claire Henson added six points for the Raiders, and
Olivia Brown four.
Four Raiders combined for 20 rebounds, with five each coming from Chard Peloquin, Riddle, Staton, and Taylor. Brown led the team with ten assists, a personal best and team season high. Chard Peloquin had two blocks, followed by one each by Henson and Sagester.
The Raiders struggled against Oakland's defense, shooting 25.8 percent at the half to the Golden Grizzlies' 48.1 field goal percentage. Wright State was up 18-15 after the first quarter, led by Sagester with back-to-back downtown jumpers in the final minute. The Golden Grizzlies had a strong second quarter, scoring 24 points while allowing just six points by the Raiders, taking a 39-24 lead at the half.
Wright State saw major improvements after halftime, shooting 62.5 percent from the floor, besting Oakland 23-29 in scoring and nine-to-seven in rebounds. Magestro-Kennedy led the team in the third, recording eight points with two threes and a layup.
The Raiders continued, adding another 23 points in the fourth quarter, shooting 37.5 percent. They were led by Sagester with two threes while going two-for-two on the line. But the Raiders efforts came up short as Oakland tallied 26 points, ending the night 84-70.
Oakland (3-6, 1-0 HL) had three players in double-figure scoring, led by Maddy Skorupski with 21 points, followed by Macy Smith with 16 points and Liana Baxter with 14. Sereniti Roberts-Adams recorded a team leading six rebounds, followed by Baxter and Skorupski with five. The Golden Grizzlies finished shooting 48.3 percent overall, going 41.2 percent behind the arc and 19-of-24 on the line.
