Women’s Basketball falls to top seed Cleveland State in HL Semifinals

INDIANAPOLIS, IN – The Wright State women's basketball team fell short to Cleveland State University 83-50 in the Horizon League Championship Semifinals on Monday afternoon in the Indiana Farmers Coliseum. The Raiders wrap up post-season conference play with a 18-15 overall record, tallying more wins than the previous two year combined.
 
Wright State was led by two double-digit scorers, Alexis Hutchison with 22 points and Kacee Baumhower with 15 points. Hutchison led in two other statistical categories with seven rebounds and five assists. Layne Ferrell and Rachel Loobie both led the team with three blocks each. Lauren Scott, Jada Tate, and Baumhower each put up two of the nine Raider steals.
 
Cleveland finished shooting 48.5 percent from the floor, 37.5 for three, and 81.3 from the line. They bested the Raiders in points in the paint (42-18) and second chance points (6-10).
 
The Vikings took a fast 30-15 lead in the first, going 11-of-17 from the field and five-of-five on the line. Baumhower, Hutchison, and Scott each added a shot from behind the arc in the first, averaging 50 percent for three-point field goals for the quarter. Baumhower and Hutchison reached their double-digit scoring before the half ended, each tallying another seven points each in the second quarter. Cleveland shot 50 percent in the second, going 10-of-20 from the field, while the Raiders closely trailed at 7-of-17 for 41.2 percent.
 
The Raiders stayed in the deficit throughout the second half, adding only seven points against Cleveland's 25 in the third, allowing the Vikings to take a 38-point lead, 77-39. Wright State outshot the Vikings in the fourth, putting up 11 points to their six, and shooting 30.7 percent from the floor to their 25 percent. The Raiders also bested Cleveland with four turnovers to the Viking's eight in the fourth. Their final quarter rally lowered Cleveland's advantage by five, ending the game 83-50.
