Raiders fall in game two at Purdue Fort Wayne

FORT WAYNE, IN – The Wright State baseball team fell short to Purdue Fort Wayne 11-2 on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders are now 12-10 on the season and 3-2 in the Horizon League. The two teams will finish the series on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

Wright State ended the day with two runs on seven hits against their 12 strikeouts. Boston Smith led the team with two hits, while Drew Baker, Carson Clark, Patrick Fultz, Nate Manley, and Sammy Sass each had one. Both Baker and Smith recorded a double on the day. Clark advanced on a stolen base once.
 
Wright State scored their two runs in the top of the second, beginning with Baker and Smith putting up their doubles, sitting on second and third. Fultz recorded an RBI grounding out to first for Baker to score. Manley followed with a single allowing Smith to score.
 
Starting pitcher Ty Roder was charged with the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits with two walks and one strikeout in his three and a third innings on the mound. Joey Valentine led the team with two strikeouts in his one inning of work, allowing no runs or hits with four walks.
 
The Mastodons took an early lead, putting up five runs in the first three innings. PFW scored in all but one inning, that being the fifth. PFW finished the day with 11 runs on 11 hits with 13 walks against their four strikeouts. The 'Dons had three extra-base hits, all coming from doubles. They were led by Justin Osterhouse with two hits and three RBI.
 
Carter Sabol earned the win for the 'Dons after putting in six and a third innings of work, allowing two runs on four hits with ten strikeouts. Jake Paymaster closed the game for PFW, allowing no runs on three hits with two strikeouts.
