Raiders capture 2024 Horizon League team title, Flynn individual champion

Howey-in-the-Hills, FL – The Wright State men's golf team captured the 2024 Horizon League Championship on Monday afternoon as Andrew Flynn defeated teammate Timmy Hollenbeck on the second playoff hole to grab top individual honors.

For the Raiders, the team title is their eighth overall Horizon League Championship in program history, now the second-most all-time in the Horizon, while Wright State has now won three team championships in the last five seasons. Flynn becomes the third-straight Raider to capture the Horizon League individual title and is the ninth Wright State player to win the HL individual title, continuing to build upon the League-record mark. It also marked the second-straight season a Raider took home the individual title after winning on the second playoff hole.

Flynn and the rest of the Raiders now await their destination in the 2024 NCAA Regional during the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Selection Show on Wednesday, May 1 at 2 p.m., which will be televised by the Golf Channel.

Flynn began his day with an eagle on the par five first hole and was three-under on the day through nine holes before a double-bogey on the 10th slowed him down. He recovered with three birdies down the stretch, including back-to-back birdies on the 17th and 18th holes to finish with a final round 68 (-4) to force the playoff with Hollenbeck, who had finished minutes earlier. Both Flynn and Hollenbeck collected pars on the first playoff hole, the 18th, before Flynn won the title on the second playoff hole with a birdie on hole one.

Hollenbeck carded his second round of 67 this week on Monday, finishing the day at five-under with six birdies and a lone bogey as he climbed towards the top of the leaderboard. He sat in first after finishing his final round with four straight pars, watching Flynn's closing holes that forced the playoff. Mikkel Mathiesen was the third Raider inside the top five, finishing his final round with a two-under 70 with a card that featured five birdies – including four on the back nine – against three bogeys as he ended tournament action at three-under overall and fourth individually.

Adam Horn wrapped up tournament action with a five-over 77 on Monday to finish nine-over in a tie for 17th overall, tallying a pair of birdies, but he was unable to work around back-to-back double bogeys early in his round. Shane Ochs carded a three-under final round 75 as he ended the week 10-over in a tie for 25th, finishing strong with three back-nine birdies after four bogeys and a double bogey early in his final round.
