DAYTON – The Wright State baseball team defeated Youngstown State University 15-12 on Friday afternoon. The Raiders are now 16-13 overall and 6-4 in the Horizon League. The at-home series will continue on Saturday, April 6 at 2:00 p.m. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats.

Wright State ended the day with 15 runs on 16 hits with six walks against their four strikeouts. They were led by
Sammy Sass's four hits, followed by
Julian Greenwell with three hits on the day.
Carson Clark and
Ben Vore each added two hits, while
Drew Baker,
Patrick Fultz,
Jay Luikart,
Boston Smith, and
Andrew Patrick each recorded one hit. The Raiders tallied four extra-base hits, with a double each from Clark and Sass, a triple by Greenwell, and a homer by Smith. Wright State went five-of-six on stolen bases, with Sass stealing twice and Baker, Smith, and Vore once.
The Raiders started the game off strong, with an inning ending double-play from Vore in left field to Fultz at shortstop, tagging the runner at second, to Sass at home for the second out. Wright State followed adding the first run to the board, as Vore grounded out to short stop, allowing Greenwell to score in the bottom of the first. The Penguins returned adding four runs in the top of the second, holding the three-run lead through the top of the third. Wright State regained their lead, adding five runs in the bottom of the third, beginning with a double by Sass allowing Clark to score. Vore recorded a two-RBI single, sending Greenwell and Sass across home base, and tying the game at four. A Smith homer to right center gave the Raiders a two-run advantage, 6-4.
RBI singles by Luikart and Vore raised the lead to 8-4 in the bottom of the fourth. Wright State hit double-figure runs in the fifth inning, with a Clark double allowing Fultz to score and a Sass single sending Clark home, 10-4. The sixth inning gave Wright State the double-digit lead, 15-4, beginning with Smith being walked, stealing second, and being sent home by a Patrick single. The Raiders added two more consecutive RBI singles, one each coming from Baker and Fultz. A Greenwell triple, his first on the season, gave the Raiders a ten-run lead, with a Sass single making it 11.
The Penguins added three homers in the top of the seventh, and a two-RBI double in the eighth, lowering the Raider lead to five, 15-10. The final runs of the game were score with a Penguin two-RBI double in the top of the ninth, ending the day 15-12 for the Raiders.
Starting pitcher
Jake Shirk (2-3) was awarded the win after pitching six innings, allowing four runs on six hits with two walks and three strikeouts.
Garrett Peters entered in the seventh to pitch one and two third innings, allowing two runs on one hit with one walk and two batters struck out.
Cam Allen entered in the ninth to pitch the final two thirds of an inning, allowing no runs with one hit and one strikeout.
Youngstown starting pitcher Jacob Gehring (2-4) was charged with the loss after allowing ten runs on ten hits with three walks and four strikeouts in four and one third innings on the mound. The Penguins finished with 12 runs on 14 hits with five walks against their six
