ROCHESTER, MI – The Wright State baseball team defeated Oakland University 7-6 on Friday afternoon. The Raiders are now 26-18 overall and 15-7 in the Horizon League. The series will continue Saturday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. Fans can keep up with the action through live stats.

The Raiders finished with seven runs on 12 hits with three walks against their five strikeouts.
Luke Arnold,
Julian Greenwell,
Gus Gregory, and
Sammy Sass each finished with two hits on the day, while
Drew Baker,
Andrew Patrick,
Boston Smith, and
Ben Vore each had one hit. Arnold led the team with two doubles, followed by Sass with one double, while Baker, Greenwell, and Smith each had one homer, totaling six extra-base hits for the Raiders. Patrick, Smith, and Vore all reached base once on walks.
Oakland held a 5-3 lead after the first three innings. The Raiders took an initial lead, as Greenwell opened the day with a homer to right field in the top of the first, followed by Smith homering to left in the top of the second, and Gregory recording an RBI after grounding out to second base, allowing Patrick to score. Oakland added five runs in the second inning to take the lead.
The Raiders added one run in the fourth with a Gregory RBI single to second base, sending Patrick to score. They tied the game at five in the seventh, as
Jay Luikart recorded a sacrifice fly, sending Greenwell to score. The Golden Grizzlies regained a 6-5 lead with an RBI ground out to short stop, but Wright State reacted with a Baker homer to tie the game at six in the top of the ninth. Gregory reached on a single up the middle, advancing to second on a Greenwell sacrifice bunt. Gregory was sent home by a Sass double through the right side. The Raider pitching staff held off Oakland in the bottom of the ninth, ending the day 7-6.
Garrett Peters (3-0) was awarded the win after pitching the eighth inning, allowing no runs on two hits with no walks.
Cam Allen earned his first collegiate save after closing the day, allowing no runs on one hit with one walk and one batter struck out. Starting pitcher
Jake Shirk put in seven innings of work, allowing six runs on eight hits with one walk and six batters struck out.
Brandon Decker (5-5) was charged with the loss after allowing three runs on six hits with three batters struck out. The Golden Grizzlies finished with six runs on 11 hits with two walks against their seven strikeouts. They were led by Brandon Heidal's four hits, including two doubles.
