Raiders grab pair of podiums, multiple qualifiers in Saturday HL Championship action

ROCHESTER, MI — The Wright State track and field programs were a part of the action all day long on Saturday's day two at the 2024 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, with a pair of podium finishes in the 3000 Meter Steeplechase runs highlighting the action.

Kaitlyn Miller finished second in the women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase with a time of 10:55.00 to find her way to the podium stand, while Ethan Neblock turned in a mark of 9:23.94 in the men's 3000 Meter Steeplechase on the way to a fifth-place finish.

Sunday action will crown champions throughout the day, with the schedule featuring only finals, both on the track and in field events.

Three Raiders advanced to Sunday's finals in their respective events after Saturday's prelims, with Hannah Falknor qualifying for both the women's 100m and 200m races on Sunday. Faulknor finished fifth in the 100m prelims with a time of 12.14 seconds before turning around later in the afternoon and clocking a 24.95 mark in the 200m prelim. Jude Elkins qualified for the final in the men's 100m hurdles after his time of 14.73 on Saturday to finish fifth in the prelims, while Mohamed Bilal was sixth with a time of 56.28 in the men's 400m hurdles as he qualified for Sunday's final.

Abbey Pucket and Melissa Siler wrapped up the remaining Heptathlon events on Saturday, competing in the long jump, javelin and 800m race portions of the event, with Siler's first-place finish in the javelin throw (34.23m distance) highlighting the pair's efforts on the day. Among the other Raiders participating in Saturday's action, Lylla Kovacs finished 10th in a pair of events (100m prelims, long jump), while Meredith Goecke and Oliver Murray finished ninth and 10th, respectively, in their pole vault finals. Anna Johnson finished ninth in the women's 3000 Meter Steeplechase behind Miller's second-place finish, while Hunter Thompson was 10th in the men's 400m race, but failed to qualify for the finals, in the Raiders' other Top 10 finish on Saturday.
