DAYTON – Wright State head baseball coach Alex Sogard announced the promotion of two coaches on Wednesday.
Â
Chiero and Anglin both finished their first season on the Raider coaching staff. This past season, Wright State went 32-24 overall, taking the regular season Horizon League title with a 20-10 league record.
Â
Chiero will move into the position of associate head coach, formerly serving as assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Â
"Jordan is a major part of this program and truly understands our Raidergang culture," Sogard says. "In his short time here, he's had a tremendous impact on our student-athletes. His ability to recruit, connect, and develop our players, makes him one of the rising young stars in coaching. He is a tireless worker, and I look forward to working alongside Jordan to elevate this program."
Â
Previously, Chiero lived in both the scouting and player development world. Before joining the Raiders, he served as the scouting director for PBR Ohio, as the hitting coordinator at Bo Jackson's Elite Sports in Columbus, and as an associate scout for the 2023 World Champion Texas Rangers.
Â
This is not Chiero's first time as a Raider, previously serving as an assistant coach in 2015, helping the Raiders to a runner-up NCAA regional finish in 2015 as well as a Horizon League Tournament Championship while working with hitters and infielders.
Â
In his playing days at NCAA Division II Tiffin, Chiero was a four-year letterman and a two-time All-GLIAC selection. Upon graduation, he ranked in Top 10 all-time at Tiffin for most putouts and hits, and still holds single-game records for most home runs (three) and RBI (nine). Chiero played professionally after his time at Tiffin, spending one season with the Taos Blizzard of the Pecos League.
Â
Anglin is being promoted to assistant coach, previously serving as the Director of Hitting Development.
Â
"Gehrig is, and has always been, a true Raider. He was a relentless worker as a player, and now he has continued that as a coach," says Sogard. "I was honored to bring Gehrig on staff last year as the Director of Hitting Development. He's had an incredible impact on our Raidergang culture, and I look forward to seeing him take the next step as an assistant coach. He is the ultimate leader by example and will be an outstanding role model for these young men."
Â
Anglin joined the Wright State coaching staff after a six-year playing career with the Raiders from 2018 to 2023. He was part of five regular season title, four Horizon League championships, and four NCAA Regional appearances. A two-time All-Horizon League First Team select, Anglin slashed .299/.415/.551 with 42 doubles, 29 home runs, 133 runs batted in, 132 runs scored, and 32 stolen bases over 177 games.
Â
Anglin, a native of St. Clair, Michigan, earned his bachelor's degree in marketing from Wright State in 2021.
