AKRON – The Wright State women's soccer team fell to Akron 1-0 on Sunday afternoon at FirstEnergy Stadium.
The Raiders (0-2-0) ended the day with six shots, two on goal. They were led by
Caitlin Burger's two shots, while
Allison Charleston,
Makenzie Chinn,
Kylie Krynzel, and
Samara Nunn each added one shot. Burger and Charleston each had one shot on goal.
Goalkeepers
Erin Baker and
Kiera Sarka combined for five saves. After entering at the half, Baker allowed one goal while facing seven shots. Baker tallied four saves in the final 45 minutes of play.
The Zips (3-0-1) scored their game winning goal as Anna Simmons found the back of the net in the 57th minute with assists from Kaitlyn Rogowski and Ella Hadley. Akron finished with 15 shots, six on goal, led by Kylie Schiemann's four shots with two on goal.
Kaylee Pham logged a team leading 68 minutes in the Sunday match, followed by
Elise Canter's 66 minutes,
Zara Graff and
Tamara Smith's 63 minutes, and
Olivia Mace's 59 minutes. 23 Raiders touched the field, including six first-year players.
The Raiders will continue playing on the road as they take on Indiana Thursday, August 29 at 4:30 p.m. and Southern Indiana Sunday, September 1 at 2 p.m. Wright State returns home to host Morehead State for their home opener on Sunday, September 5 at 7 p.m.
