DAYTON – The Wright State men's soccer team started off conference play upsetting IU Indianapolis, voted fourth in the Horizon League Preseason Poll, 2-0 on Saturday afternoon. The shutout victory comes from goals by Edwin Espinal-Elvir and Jonah Williams.

The Raiders (3-3-0) outshot IU Indy (3-2-1) 14-4, putting up ten shots on goal to IUI's two, and bested the Jaguars in corner kicks 5-3. Felix Ezekwuka led WSU with four shots, three on goal, followed by Henry Hutchinson with three shots, all on goal. Espinal-Elvir and Cole Werthmuller each added two shots, one on goal, while Charlie Carpenter, Uleto Fuentes, and Williams all had one shot. Five Raiders – Zakaria Amro, Jack Jenkins, Conner Osterholt, Brock Pickett, and Joel Shaw logged a full 90 minutes of play.

The Raiders recorded four shots in the first 45 minutes, one each from Hutchinson and Werthmuller, both on target, and two from Espinal-Elvir. WSU defense held the Jaguars to no shots in the first half. Wright State first got on the board in the 27th minute, as Werthmuller sped down the pitch, passing to Hutchinson. Hutchinson snuck it past a Jaguar defender to Espinal-Elvir to put it in the upper left corner with a header.

WSU had ten shots in the second half, allowing only four from IUI. Ezekwuka led the half with four shots, three on goal, followed by Hutchinson with two, both on goal. Carpenter, Fuentes, Werthmuller, and Williams all had one shot in the second.
