Raiders down Ohio State for second-straight power conference victory

COLUMBUS – The Wright State volleyball team grabbed its second-straight victory over a power conference opponent with a four-set win over Ohio State on Sunday afternoon to close the Sports Import Classic.
 
Wright State (7-2) dropped the opening set, 25-17, before responding with three-straight set wins by scores of 25-21, 25-18 and 25-15 to down tournament host Ohio State (5-3). The victory gave the Raiders a third consecutive four set win for the weekend, joining victories over Buffalo and No. 22 Miami.
 
Wright State is back in action next weekend as the Raiders leave the state of Ohio for the first time this season, traveling to face Ball State on Friday night before a Saturday matchup with Butler.
 
The Raiders finished the afternoon with a .222 team hitting percentage, responding over the final three sets after opening the match with a .100 hitting percentage. Conversely, Ohio State opened with a .297 hitting percentage but finished with a .000 fourth set percentage and finished the afternoon with a .156 overall mark.
 
Mya Ayro led the Raiders with 14 kills, adding three blocks, while Sam Ott turned in a packed stat line of 11 kills, 11 digs, five service aces and a block. Middle blockers Reilly Zegunis and Taylor Bransfield each had double digit kills (Zegunis 11, Bransfield 10) as the pair combined for six blocks.
 
Lauren Yacobucci passed out 38 of the Raiders' 50 assists, while Jenny Wessling finished with a match-high 22 digs and Katei Sowko added 16 digs of her own. As a group, Wright State notched 10 service aces, with Jenny Morey collecting four and Sowko tallying one behind Ott's five aces.
