CHICAGO, Illinois – The Wright State men's soccer team fell to Loyola Chicago 4-2 on Thursday night. The Raider's two goals came from
Conner Osterholt and
Cole Werthmuller.
Wright State (2-2-0) bested the Ramblers (1-2-1) in shots, 14-12, and corner kicks, 9-1, while both teams tallied two saves. Osterholt and Werthmuller each led the team with three shots, followed by
Edwin Espinal-Elvir with two shots. Goalkeeper
Joel Shaw logged all 90 minutes, recording two saves.
Jack Jenkins and
Brock Pickett also put in the full 90 minutes.
Osterholt added his first goal of the season, eighth in his career, in the 35th minute as
Henry Hutchinson made a skillful pass to Osterholt, who found the back of the net from just outside the box, tying the score at one.
The Ramblers took an early second half lead, scoring in the 53rd minute. But Wright State swiftly tied the match at two as Werthmuller played off a deflected ball, shooting overtop the goalkeeper to sink it in the upper left in the 62nd minute.
Loyola ended the night with four goals, first scoring in the 15th minute. The Ramblers added another three goals in the second half, with two by Luka Ivancic in under ten minutes, first in the 53rd minute and again in the 62nd minute. The final goal of the day came in the 74th minute.
The Raiders will stay in Chicago, traveling to DePaul for a Sunday afternoon matchup on September 8. The game is set for a 3 p.m. kick off and will have FloSports livestream and live stats available.
