DAYTON – The Wright State women's soccer team added their second consecutive win Thursday evening, defeating Morehead State in a shutout. The 3-0 home opener victory comes with two goals by
Olivia Stroud and one from
Caitlin Burger.
Wright State (2-3-0) bested Morehead State (3-2-1) in shots, 16-8, shots on goal, 9-5, and corner kicks 5-4, while the Eagles put up six saves to WSU's five.
Ruby Dunlevy led the Raiders with three shots, two on goal, followed by Burger, Mariella Hartman,
Kylie Krynzel,
Tamara Smith, and Stroud, each recording two shots.
Erin Baker and
Kiera Sarka combined for four saves, as Sarka opened for the first 45 minutes, and Baker closed the final 45.
Many Raiders saw action today, with 13 players subbing in.
Kaylee Pham logged the most playing time, putting in 73 minutes, followed by
Zara Graff with 66 minutes and
Kaitlyn Eyink with 64 minutes.
Stroud put Wright State on the board early, sinking it into the lower middle unassisted in the eighth minute. Not long after, Stroud made a crucial pass for Burger to find the back of the net, raising the Raider advantage 2-0 in the 17th minute. Sarka finished the half with one save as the Eagles made just two attempts the first 45 minutes.
Mirroring the first period, Wright State made an impact early on, as Dunlevy kept the ball in the box, passing it to Stroud for her second goal of the day in the 50th minute. Baker tallied three saves on the evening, as the Eagles put up six shots in the second half.
The Raiders will continue playing at home on Sunday, September 8 at 1 p.m., hosting Valparaiso. Fans can keep up with the game with free admissions or through live stats.
