DAYTON – Alex Huibregtse finished with a game-high 21 points to lead four Raiders in double digit scoring, but the Wright State men's basketball team fell 95-79 to visiting Milwaukee in Horizon League action on Wednesday night.
Wright State (10-11, 4-6 HL) now turns its attention to a Saturday matchup against Detroit Mercy, also at home, for its annual military appreciation game. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m. inside the Nutter Center.
On Wednesday, the Raiders and Milwaukee (14-7, 7-3 Horizon) traded baskets in the opening minutes before Wright State used a 9-3 run to take a 28-21 lead. The visitors responded with 13 of the next 17 points to take the lead for what turned out to be for good, taking a 42-36 lead into the half.
Wright State used an 8-1 run early in the second half to cut the deficit to six, but the Raiders were unable to get any closer as Milwaukee tallied the next five points to keep the hosts at arms' length.
Huibregtse notched 13 of his 21 points in the second half, finishing the night 6-of-9 overall from the floor with four three-pointers as he added four rebounds, four assists and a block.
Brandon Noel turned in 17 points of his own while pulling down six rebounds, while
Jack Doumbia finished with 14 points and added three rebounds.
Keaton Norris was the final Raider in double figures with 10 points as he added three rebounds, three assists and a steal, while
Solomon Callaghan had nine points and
Logan Woods chipped in six points.
Wight State finished the night shooting an even 50 percent (28-of-56) while connecting on 9-of-21 from the three-point line (43 percent) and were 64 percent (14-of-22) at the free throw stripe.
Milwaukee, who came into the night shooting 29.7 percent from three-point range for the year while connecting on an average of 5.7 triples per game, hit 11-of-24 three-pointers (46 percent), eight of which came in the first half. The visitors shot 49 percent overall (31-of-63) with a 22-of-27 mark (81 percent) from the free throw line.
Six Milwaukee players combined for all but 13 of the visitors' points, with 18 points each from Themus Fulks and Kentrell Pullian.
