Raiders turn in quality showings on Friday in Kentucky

LOUISVILLE – The Wright State track and field programs littered the top of the final standings in a multitude of events at Friday's Bellarmine Classic.
 
The highlight of the action came in the men's 800 meters, where the Raiders broke their school record three times in three consecutive heats. First, Aiden Clendenin set the mark with his 1:57.83 time before Gavin Hutchinson clocked a 1:56.70 time. Nicholas Hoelscher then reset the mark again with his 1:56.22 time to finish fourth in the event, with Hutchinson in eighth and Clendenin 11th.
 
Lylla Kovacs had a pair of top five finishes, grabbing second in the women's long jump with her 5.48m distance and adding a third-place finish in the women's 60m hurdles with her 9.08 second time. The men's long jump saw Greyson Pollock finish fourth with his 6.48m distance, while Pollock finished sixth in the men's high jump, clearing 1.80m, just behind teammate Jahi McDonald, who finished fourth with his 1.90m clearance.
 
Olivia Aills cleared 1.50m to finish fifth in the women's high jump, while teammate Taryn Stills was seventh with her 1.50m mark, a new personal best. Maredith Goecke cleared 3.56m to finish fourth in the women's pole vault, while Oliver Murray was third in the men's pole vault with his 4.40m clearance. Izabella Bell notched a 10.19m mark in the women's triple jump for a fifth-place finish.
 
Hannah Falknor finished third in the women's 60m race with her 7.77 second time, then later added an 11th-place finish in the women's 200m with her 26.02 second mark. Jude Elkins grabbed a third-place finish of his own in the men's 60m hurdles with his 8.16 second time, later adding a 14th-place finish (22.81) in the men's 200m race.
 
Wright State had three finishers in the top 10 of the women's 800, paced by Mia Wyngarden in fourth with her time of 2:22.97, followed by Alexa Magoteaux (ninth) and Elle Lambert (10th) with their times of 2:25.47 and 2:25.91. The Raiders also saw group success in the mile races, with three in the top 20, paced by Emma Johnson's second-place finish (5:12.14) in the women's race, followed by Shelby Hept (18, 5:29.42) and Reece Barnitz (19, 5:30.93). The men were paced in the mile by Patrick Statzer in third (4:20.20), followed by Evan McPherson (13, 4:21.84) and Ethan Neblock (20, 4:25.96). Andrew Bugner finished second in the men's 3,000m with his time of 8:38.98, followed by Blake Rodgers in seventh at 8:45.74.
 
The Raiders are back on the track next week closer to home, competing at the Steemer Showcase in Springfield next Saturday.
