MOON TOWNSHIP, Pennsylvania – The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Robert Morris 74-53 on Wednesday evening. The Raiders will play again at home on Saturday, February 1, taking on the Northern Kentucky Norse for a National Girls and Women in Sports Day game. The 2 p.m. game will stream on ESPN+ and have live stats provided.
Wright State (5-17, 3-9 HL) finished shooting 34 percent from the floor, 23.5 percent from three, and 73.9 percent on the line. The Raiders were led by
Claire Henson with 15 points and nine rebounds.
Makiya Miller and
Macie Taylor followed, adding nine points each. Miller led the team with five steals, followed by Henson with three, while
Amaya Staton had two of the Raider's four blocks.
The game began close with four lead changes in the first quarter, as the Raiders held a one-point with 6:20 left in the period. The 7-6 advantage came after a Staton jumper in the paint, followed by a three by
Lauren Scott. RMU added a three of their own, but the Raiders reacted with a jumper from outside the arc by
Abbie Riddle, regaining the lead 10-9.
At the half the Raiders were shooting 42.9 percent overall from the floor, led by
Olivia Brown with six points, followed by Henson with four. In the first two quarters, Henson and Taylor each grabbed two off the backboard, while Chard Peloquin and Henson both blocked one shot.
RMU outscored the Raiders 23-11 in the third, holding WSU to shooting 25 percent from the floor. Henson led the period recording seven points while grabbing four of the Raider's eight rebounds. WSU outscored the Colonials 18-16 in the final quarter, going eight-of-ten on the free throw line. Taylor led the period with nine points, while Henson grabbed three rebounds.
Robert Morris (9-12, 5-7 HL) finished shooting 54 percent from the floor, 50 percent from three, and 88.2 percent on the free throw line. The Colonials were led by Mya Murray with 16 points, followed by Katelyn Chomko with 12 points and Isys Grady with 11 points. Raissa Nsabua led the team with 10 rebounds, while Jennica Suggs had three blocks.
