GREEN BAY, Wisconsin – The Wright State women's basketball team fell to Green Bay 69-51 on Saturday afternoon. The Raiders will return home on Wednesday, January 8 to host Detroit Mercy. The game is set for a 7 p.m. tip off and will stream on ESPN+.
Wright State (2-14, 0-6 HL) ended the day shooting 37.7 percent overall from the floor. Junior guard
Claire Henson led the team with 19 points and six rebounds.
Amaya Staton and
Makiya Miller both added nine points for the Raiders, followed by
Abbie Riddle and
Macie Taylor with five points each. Henson and Miller each ended the day with four assists.
Following Henson's six rebounds was Staton with four and Miller with three. Henson led the team with three steals, closely trailed by Taylor with two, while
Olivia Brown and
Ellie Magestro-Kennedy each had one steal.
The Raiders were shooting 55.6 percent overall after the first quarter, going 5-of-9 from the floor. Henson and Taylor led the team, each tallying five points and two rebounds. Taylor opened the day giving WSU a 5-0 lead with a three in the first minute, followed by a driving layup. The Phoenix went on a 7-0 run, briefly taking the lead, before Staton tied the game at one with a layup, drawing a foul to regain the advantage 8-7. The game stayed close, with five lead changes in the quarter. The Phoenix went on a 6-0 run to end the quarter 15-13.
At the half, the Raiders were shooting 36 percent overall after going 4-of-16 from the floor in the second quarter. Staton was leading the team, tallying seven points, followed by Henson and Taylor with five each. Green Bay put up 16 points while holding WSU to nine, taking a 31-22 lead at halftime.
Henson saw her best scoring quarter in the third, tallying nine points to total 14 on the day. Riddle followed going two-of-three from the floor, while Staton went one-of-one with a layup. The Raiders shot 37.5 percent in the third, going 6-of-16 from the floor.
WSU shot 41.7 percent in the final quarter, as Miller led the team with six points, going two-of-three from behind the arc. Henson followed with five points, going two-of-two from the floor and one-of-two on the line.
Rylee Sagester and Henson both grabbed two off the backboard in the fourth.
Green Bay (11-5, 4-1 HL) ended the day shooting 43.1 percent from the floor, 37.5 percent from three, and 76.5 percent on the line. The Phoenix had three playerse in double-figure scoring, led by Callie Genke with 14 points, followed by Natalie McNeal and Cassie Schiltz with 13 points. Jenna Guyer led the team in rebounding, grabbing ten on the day, closely trailed by Jasmine Kondrakiewicz with nine.
